bi-quarterly posting :)

yeah... so i've been a lot worse about posting now that i've found friends on Facebook :) it seems more fun to throw sheep at people than to blog about my life right now...especially after all the drama of 8th grade. yeah. throwing sheep is a much better coping method :)

but heck yeah I am counting down until school is out. 18 days, baby. and the initial stress of finding a job is out of the way. quick version...because of weird hiring methods in big city districts, I had to re-interview for my current job. i was not re-hired. new principal coming in, bringing her own people, blah blah blah. so i interviewed for other jobs in the district, and got hired at Sherwood. i am actually optimistic about it. heard good things, they're giving me just about everything i would want for a middle school program. only draw back: chalkboards. no white boards. ouch on my hands in the winter. so we'll see.

also, got a new roomie. three-way split on rent is much happier :) and three girls to laugh about your day with is so much more fun. she also formerly worked at the zoo, so she gets along fine with our unusual pet combination (shitzu and parrot)

training for a small race this weekend....my first 5k. i am feeling good as I run 1-2 miles a day...hope i can make 3.1 on saturday!

will post pics from baby shower for Michelle and Mother's Day at my house as soon as possible! in between reveiwing for final exams, trying to find scantron sheets, playing guitar on mondays, running the 5k, new membership classes at church, and sitting out on my porch while we grill out (as often as possible! yeah, summer!)

to the faithful, the few, readers, my thanks. :)

after falling off the face of the earth...

for awhile...I'm back! :) party due to being grumpy going through culture shock with inner city stuff and partly because I have been so busy! also, I want to post with pictures, but found out that I can't upload any pics using my Safari browser...might have to go to the library with some pics on CD to show you all my ADORABLE new niece, Zora Sophia! Kara had a home birth, bless her, for this beautiful 8 lb. 14 oz. baby girl :) However, after three weeks of good eatin', Zora quickly reached 11 lbs.!

Other 'big' news that has kept me away from xanga posting:

*finished planting 360 flower bulbs between our house and my parents' house (they will bloom in spring :)

*finished my guitar class, we played "How great is our God" for our 'graduation' song

*baked five pies for Thanksgiving (my contribution to the Navarro's and Chapin family meals)

*working out regularly at school with two other teachers

*attending a new small group of **YOUNG ADULTS** who are singles, professionals,...wow...a peer group...it's amazing :)

*putting up Christmas decorations at home and in the classroom

*1st Quarter grades are finished!! and also the first parent/teacher conferences....and also the first two students from my classes who were expelled...and also my first experience putting out a fire in the girls' bathroom...whew. let's just say I am looking forward to Christmas break (not just b/c of the vacation time, but because it marks the half-way point for the school year :)

and much, much more :) it's fun being able to call my sis-in-law and say "Hey, let's go for a cup of coffee" or stop over at my parents and take a nap while movie-watching with my dad on a Saturday.

I promise I will post pictures as soon as possible! I also want to post with pics of my NEW Takamine guitar :) the story of God's provision of it and completely unexpected blessing is great and I want to share it with you.

Write soon when I can access via Explorer with my picture CDs!

moving...moved....done!

Whew! I hope that is the last move I have to make in a long time! Of course, I have said that the last four times I moved :) I am so thankful for what God has provided...and I am so content with my new place....three bedroom duplex in a neighborhood backing up to a huge park...christian gal for a roommate and cute little dog (shitzu) who gets along well with Ne'ema...who could ask for more? So I am settling in...just in time to unpack my winter attire and start baking some fall goodies! Meanwhile, I am still kept very occupied by my new teaching job, lesson plans, grading, seating charts, phone calls home, etc. The norm. I guess. That is, if the norm includes averaging getting one to two kids suspended every couple of weeks, yelling at the class 20-40% of the time class at least three days a week, helping to keep between kids who are on the verge of throwing punches, and having the kids ask, upon reading a question on the worksheet about likes/dislikes, "What is Pearl Jam? Who is Garth Brooks? What kind of a name is that?" Of course, 'Garth' would seem weird to a group of kids used to hearing names like 'Dequenta' and 'Yohana' and 'Takeisha.' :) One-syllable names that follow regular phonics rules just aren't heard of! Gotta love the urban cultural experience! I have adapted at least somewhat, because I have caught myelf this week twice correcting a student by saying "Don't be trippin'!" or "What would your mama say if she knew you were actin' a fool in my class?"

So, God also provided just the right people at just the right times to help me move (thank goodness...I have worn the welcome out of some of you dear friends with all my moving!)...I made several trips over with my dad's truck on the previous weekend (expend a little stress energy from school by doing exercise, right?) and then my brother David helped me with a lot of the furniture on Thursday a week ago. A new friend from church, Trisha, (also a teacher) helped me all last Saturday morning and I was finished on Sunday! My new roommate and I have been laughing at TV shows together and making kitchen cupboard decisions and we went horseback riding with some of her friends from work this morning! All in all,...very excited about being 'on my own' again. Ne'ema is also excited about making friends with Sandy and flying around the new house...but she's been a little wary of Charlie (the dog). I don't think she wants to get licked in the beak :)

Well...off to a family dinner at my parents' house (it'll be nice to be going 'for a visit' :), with Becky and the baby and Kara ready to pop any day (she's a week overdue!!! I can't wait to meet the new little one!), Aunt Suisan (visiting from CA) and the rest of the gang, beards and all :)
